I want to create a Media Centre in my living room — would like some help with respect to what PC + other equipment I should buy and what types of software I should use in order to create a cool media center (e.g. to watch/record TV, browse internet, listen to music, look at photos etc)

If you are interested in non-Windows solution, I would definitely recommend MythTV on Linux with a Hauppauge PVR250/350 TV tuner card. It is very powerful and comes with all the features you want and more. It requires some time to set up but once you do, believe me, its worth it.

I read some advertisements about internet tv softwares that could provide TV programs thru internet. No monthly charge, just purchase the software. A one time fee for the cost of the software. How reliable is this. What is the best software.

You’re gonna get free streams on the internet in a program. It’s not really reliable at all and are just a money scam. If you want the best, just get a TV Tuner card and watch tv on your computer.

The free streams are normally weird foreign channels or channels nobody really watches. Don’t expect to get Cable TV on the computer through the internet.

This seems to be one of the best moving software products on the internet. But does it really work.

I am planning on buying a Yellow Dell Inspiron 1525 just after christmas from www.dell.co.uk/tv for £329 and i would like to know what Internet Security is the best out there to buy?? i would like to get my Internet Security before i get the laptop so i can install it striaght away when i get it!! but i have no idea about software and internet security suites or anything like that?? which is the best?? i am looking to spend no more than £100 but i want to buy a good Internet Security that is really good and works!! please please help????

I recently started watching some shows via Hulu. I have a wireless network and a laptop, so it’s fairly convenient. I’d like to somehow wirelessly stream Hulu (or youtube, or whatever else is on my computer) to my tv. I’ve looked at lots of options but haven’t found one that seems quite right. Ideally, I’d like to be able to control it via a remote.

If it helps, I’m also looking to buy a new video game system, but it doesn’t seem that the Wii, PS3 or XBox 360 will do this. I’ve looked into Playon.tv, but I don’t think it’s worth $40 just for software.

There are a few methods.

1.) Buy a cheap wireless antenna, and hook it up to you plasma. Most modern plasmas have ethernet ports for antennas.

2.) Connect you laptop to the TV (HDMI, VGA, etc)

3.) Download your video content, buy a PS3, and stream the media via PS3 Media Server (My preferred method if you have a fast internet)

I am connected to the internet via proxy (college LAN). I know the proxy server and port. TVU and sopcast doesnt work on proxies. Please tel me a good software. (also for live cricket)..
