for gaming i would say pc2 because dual cores mostly are better for gaming than quad cores, also the video card is much better

…I have only been online for a year now but have learnt to build & optimize a website and want to set up my internet as a home theatre watching tv online as well as using loads of software for powersurfing. I was thinking of learning to build a powerful harddrive but that will take up a few months – maybe? Any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I am trying to use Tivo series 2 with my wireless router (DLink G54), which is WPA. Tivo tech says I need to call DLink and convert to WEP so that I can update my Tivo software to 8.0. (I tried to use the phone line for this, but it didn’t work due to Comcast phone). WEP concerns me for 2 reasons: 1. it seems WPA is best based on other posts and 2. Will converting to WEP screw up my internet and phone use, since both use the wireless router? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Also, if add’l is helpful: I started with the Netgear wireless adptr for the Tivo but it didn’t work even tho it was a Tivo appvd model, so Tivo sent me the Tivo brand adapter. This has been a treacherous process! I may just ditch the Tivo. I have Comcast DVR on our main tv, but thought Tivo would be good upstairs to access music etc from my computer. Thank you again for input!

Remember, WEP and WPA are wireless security features, not wired features. Unless you are telling me your phone is wireless, which I doubt, your phone service will not be affected. Also, if you connect your Tivo directly to your router, there is no need to worry about wireless security.

As for your internet, yes it can be impacted. If you are changing security features, you will need change it on any computers that are receiving internet wirelessly. Again, any computer connected directly to the router via ethernet cable will not be affected.

Personaly, I think WPA and WEP are a joke. It takes up bandwidth and therefore slows your internet connection down. I prefer MAC filtering. You get the security, but no performance bottlenecks.

I have a super new tv and I have hooked up and old tablet pc running XP tablet edition so that I can do things like email, surf the net, play PC games and watch internet videos, all off which I can do now and it works great, but, I would like to have a media centre style interface.

Is it possible to install media centre onto my licenced version of tablet edition?

If so how?
Would I "need" to purchase a new windows disks?
if not, what is a good alternative?

I have ripped all my exercise DVD’s to my computer and have it hooked up to my 50" hi def TV. What’s the snazziest video player/library organizer software out there? I’d love any opinions, even if it’s the standard Windows Media Player or iTunes. When I go to choose my workout for the day, I want it to be fun, let me see the details/large cover of each video (maybe even preview the video) and generally be impressive looking. I’d prefer something that will download the DVD information/album cover from the internet, launch the video, maybe allow me to add a few details or pictures, but just be as visually fun and pleasing as possible while still being intuitive and functional. Is that too much to ask? Think Disneyland or Pixar on Steroids with professional graphics, not Windows 3.1 with a bunch of catalog text boxes of useless columns and recycled ugly generic icons in bad colors. Thanks!

XBMC. Hands down. It’s completely free and open source and works on mac, windows and linux. Once you set it up to scan the movies folder, it will catalog them and download info from IMDB.com (the largest movie info site on the internet). It downloads promo shots, DVD covers, plot summaries, actors, genres, etc.

However, your workout movies might not be cataogged on IMDB, so many of those features might not work. You can still load your own DVD covers and pictures though.

If you do use it, make sure you use the mediastream skin. I like it better.

If you are interested in non-Windows solution, I would definitely recommend MythTV on Linux with a Hauppauge PVR250/350 TV tuner card. It is very powerful and comes with all the features you want and more. It requires some time to set up but once you do, believe me, its worth it.

You’re gonna get free streams on the internet in a program. It’s not really reliable at all and are just a money scam. If you want the best, just get a TV Tuner card and watch tv on your computer.

The free streams are normally weird foreign channels or channels nobody really watches. Don’t expect to get Cable TV on the computer through the internet.
