pc tv tuners question?

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

there round 100 euro in pc world but do they actually pick up channels is it as easy as advertised you plug in usb install the software and go to windows media centre or what ever go through the list and it picks up some channels thats what there site claims or is it just a waste of money that picks up crap I dont wana buy something that just picks up what I can get free on channel surfing or Justin Tv lol

It depends what type of tv tuner you are going for. There are DVB-T, DVB-T2 and DVBS as well as analogue which is almost phased out.

I have a cheap DVB-T stick currently made by PEAK. It is a freeview tuner which means it picks up all free to air digital channels with an outdoor aerial. It works well, have had no problems so far. Once my area can get Freeview HD i’ll upgrade it and these will be a lot cheaper than buying a PVR :)

Pc Tv Tuner with shaw digital cable?

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

I have installed a "ATI TV Wonder HD 750" in my computer and now I want to watch Tv on it like all the channels I can watch on my regular Tv. I have Shaw digital basic and I added a few extra channels like Discovery channel. My problem is when I search channels on WMC or the software that was included in the Tv Tuner (Total Media 3.5) i can only watch the basic channels. What am I doing wrong? Please help me.

Unfortunately these TV Wonder tuners generally do not contain a digital decoder, thus you can only watch the channels that can be decoded by a standard cable decoder. This is why these "basic" channels are the only ones showing up when you search. I’m leaving out many technical details, but I hope you get the idea. You’re not doing anything wrong. Essentially, any channels that you can view simply by plugging your cable straight into your TV and doing a channel search, are the ones you’ll be able to view through the TV Wonder.

Note: The only partial way around this is to route the output from your cable box into the tuner as a video input, if possible. This will allow you to capture the video if you want, but you would have to change channels with the cable box. This method is really only good for capturing video, and will not allow you to change channels with the computer (due to the above limitation).

Best way to copy a DVR movie to a pc?

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Since HDTV takes up 3 times more space than analog tv, it will be important to use a PC to back up any movies you want to keep for awhile. What software, PC Tuners, etc. do you recommend?

My DVR has a option to copy movies off onto a VCR. You can play this out, to a Camcorder with a digital output which is connected to a PC running software that can accept/store the video streaming in.
You’ll be actually sending out analog video/audio, then using your Camcorder to redigitize it. Not elegant. I’ve found no way to hack the files directly off the DVR in digital form.
In my case I used a Sony Digital 8 camcorder that has a firewire (1394) output that can stream to my Mac OS X iMovie software.

Tv on your pc card or software?

Friday, October 1st, 2010

I know in the past you needed a tv card to watch tv and now there are lots of sites advertising tv on your pc and it just software. My question is is there a way to watch tv on your pc without a tuner card and is it safe. what would the best service provider be and what is the cost or is it better to just stream from Hulu ect.

Those so called software sites are ALL scams. You can go to any major network website and watch streaming video, movies, series, etc etc for free and in high quality.

how can I find what tv tuner I have?

Monday, July 19th, 2010

I have this pc from someone and don’t know what model of tv tuner it has. How can I find what model it has , is there any software that can tell me what driver I need to install?

Open the case and look at the card, It will have the information printed on the PCB or CMOS chips.

do i need a tv tuner for a hp pavilion entertainment pc?

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

are can i get software

Not unless you want to connect it to your existing cable or satellite and secondly, a TV tuner is absolutely pointless since you have to tune with a cable or sat TV box to begin with.

Problem with Leadtek WinFast DTV2000 H Digital TV tuner

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Problem with Leadtek WinFast DTV2000 H Digital TV tuner purchased from PACSTAR on Bridge Street, Epping.

I bought this card a couple of months ago and it has been nothing but trouble. From day one, the card has been terrible. The sound drops out randomly while watching television. This is accompanied by the picture displaying in jerky 3 second intervals, as can be seen in the video.

The other major problem with the card is that it will not play and record at the same time! As soon as you try and record anything, the same problem occurs, and although sound comes through on the recording, it is infuriating that you cannot actually watch TV while it’s recording.

Now, apparently, the card itself is not faulty. I took it back to PACSTAR in Epping and they swapped for another card. This card has **exactly** the same problem. I went back to PACSTAR in Epping again. They told me that they believed that because the card had been swapped, it was not faulty and the problem was with the user! “It’s probably just a setting that needs to be changed. Check your settings”, the man in the shop said. I told them that I had already done this and I wanted my money back. They refused to do this, insisting that the product was not faulty. They said, we can have a technician look at it, and since it’s just a problem with your settings, we will have to charge you. If the card is faulty, we won’t charge you. I didn’t want to do this so took the system away again.

I sent various emails to Leadtek on the 10th, 11th and 12th of August as follows:
“When watching TV, the sound sometimes drops out. This always happens when I try to use the record feature. Although there is sound on the recording, I cannot actually watch the show live because the sounds disappear completely and the picture becomes jerky. At other times, the sound drops out for no apparent reason even when I’m not recording. This is extremely annoying.”

I never got any reply to any of my messages, which went to supports@leadtek.com and contact@leadtek.com.tw

In desperation, after this problem driving me crazy, I gave up and took my computer into PACSTAR in Epping. I figured, if their technician could fix the problem, I would be prepared to pay their service fee, even though it seemed like pretty poor customer service.

This is where things became really farcical. Their technician looked at the system on Monday, and they told me, “yes, sometimes the sound drops out, but this is just because we have very bad reception here, we have no external antenna”. I asked, “yes, but did you test the recording function? No sound comes through the system while you’re trying to watch and record at the same time.”

“Oh no, we haven’t tested this function,” they told me. So I left it there another day and when I came to pick it up in the store, I was told that they had not found a problem with this function at all. I could hardly believe it! The actual technician was not there but I spoke to the lady on the phone who told me that the technician had found no problems with the sound while recording! She suggested that maybe the reception at my house was the root cause of the problem. Or maybe it was a software conflict because I have a lot of programs on my computer. “Just reinstall windows”, she said, “then install the TV tuner again”. Then it will work. I tried to argue my case, but she just kept insisting they had found no problem at all with the card. At the same time arguing that if I had problems, it was either my reception or I needed to reinstall windows. I found both of these arguments absurd. I’ve just moved house and I’m still having the problem, so it’s obviously nothing to do with the reception – both places have external antennas.

They then charged me $40 for the service!!!!! As soon as I got the computer home, I connected it and had exactly the same problem again. I am now totally frustrated. The manufacturer is apparently impossible to contact. I’ve paid for the product and I’ve now paid $40 for a service that did absolutely nothing and apparently couldn’t even find a fault!!!! AND IT STILL DOESN’T WORK!!!!!
