Is it possible to view TV Pictures as well as a)browse the internet and or b) work on any applications like word, spreadshet etc simultaneously on a Personal Computer.

Does it require a special video tuner card and software.

Or only one activity is possible viz, you either see TV or work on PC.

yes i think you can but you might need one of those TV’s that can display two images on the one screen by splitting the screen down the middle

Is there any way to watch digital cable on a pc without a set top box?

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Does anyone know if there is anyway, using a TV tuner card, to watch the digital channels on my laptop. I don’t want to buy any other hardware as I got the TV tuner with my laptop. There has to be someone who found a way to decrypt the signal with some kind of PC software or something.

You can buy Digital TV tuners for your PC.
There are even OCUR adaptors, so you can put a cable card and get premium channels (they may require that you have Vista).

You still need to pay for cable service though.

Media center pc software: windows or ubuntu?

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

I’m building a media center pc for my upstairs living room. I have a small form factor pc with a p4 2.8ghz, 1.5 gb pc3200 ddr ram, 250 gb hard drive, dvd burner, and a usb hauppauge tv tuner. I don’t need high def as I have that with my cable dvr downstairs. Here’s the question: should I use windows xp(I have a coa on the case) or ubuntu and an open source software such as myth tv? Will take suggestions from anyone with experience with software. The principal use of this pc will be as a dvr and dvd player. Vista is out as I want snappy performance with this system as is. Thanks.

Ubuntu and XP will come with a lot of stuff you don’t need for that, so I’d recommend Geexbox

http://www.geexbox.org/

It’s a nice, small Linux distro that turns your computer into a HTPC.
You don’t even have to install it (You could if you want to, though), it’s small enough to run completely in RAM from a live cd. It is based on mplayer, so it should play almost everything.

How do you capture video from VCR with a Hauppauge TV tuner?

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

I have an Hauppauge wintv-hvr 1600, and I want to hook up my VCR (analog?) to my PC so I could capture footage. I’m just stuck on figuring out what to do and I have many questions, so answer as many as you can.

1. I want to hookup the VCR with a coaxial cable because I don’t have any other option. So I place one end on "Out" on the VCR (is that right?). Now on the back of my TV tuner, there are 3 coaxial outlets, one for "FM in," "TV in," "Ant in." Which of the three do I connect the coaxial cable to? Just to let you know the tuner has RCA outlets for only the audio (red and white) so I can’t do a composite connection.

2. What software do I need? I have downloaded Powervideo Studio, but I don’t know how to set it up to record from the VCR.

Basically I need a step-by-step guide that would work for my equipement, if there is one, please gimme! Thanks!

1. That VCR should have a coax labeled "TV OUT," not "TV IN." That’s the one you need to connect to the wintv. Basically, you are unhooking your TV and hooking up your computer in its place, so whichever connection went to your TV is the one you need to hook the computer to.

2. I don’t know about Power Video Studio, and their website doesn’t seem to have a manual, so I hope that the program is either easy to use or has a good help function. The wintv comes with software that can record video, the WinTV HVR. Install it, turn on your VCR, and run WinTV 2000. When it asks, tell it you are using cable TV, and have it scan for channels. It should find your VCR on channel 3.

You can then use the WinTV recorder to record your videos to files (as MPEG 2). You then can run the MPEG Editor on those files to edit them further, and then use their DVD Movie Factory software to burn them to DVD (it’s MPEG 2, so it SHOULD word with most DVD players – AVI would be better.)

Can I set my PC to record TV remotely via the Internet?

Monday, April 26th, 2010

I’ve got a TV tuner card for my home PC, and it works really well. The software that comes with it (Freecom) is simple and user friendly and is very easy to set to record. Is there some software or something that would enable me to log onto a website from anywhere and set my home PC to record TV shows? Thanks

i’m sure there is but a easier way to do this is by using a vnc product such as team viewer or ultra vnc and remote to your pc .

i use team viewer and if there is something i need to record with my card (ati 9600 AIW ) i just do it that way

My computer is in other room. My television is in hall. I wanted to record music from my tv to my pc?

Monday, April 26th, 2010

without using tv tuner card. so using virtual dj software & microphone ,i started to record the music ,but the voice clarity is too bad as there is lot of distance from my pc to television. even it will be tough to shift my pc along with table to the hall where tv is set up , just for recording purposes? Is there any alternative,so that i can record music without shifting my pc & hear the music later with good clarity?

yes but you have to do some hard.
in your TV u will find audio and vedio out put. now buy one wire and two pins which can enter ther in TV. and in back of ur CPU u will find three pins among three u may be using two which in sound out put, and for mic. and third one is for input sound. now one side of wire u have to place a pin which can enter in this socket of CPU. other two u have to enter in to out put sockets of TV. in this procidure of creating wire like this pls take hepl of electonic engg. or buy it ready made. but u can do whatever u want. bye

I need software for a TV tuner (Pinnacle PCTV 100e). The one, which came with it works, but the show is jerky.

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Of course I’d need free software for it (it should be a Win XP SP2 compatible one :-) ). The manufacturer said, this equipment (Pinnacle PCTV 100e) is very hardware-demanding. (At least 2 GHz CPU, etc… Mine is a 1,8 GHz Celeron P4.) With some other softwares, the picture was good, but there was no sound, and the original software used my CPU so much (100%), that it made my PC almost completely useless (it took 1-2 minutes for it to close the application) and the picture and the sound was very jerky. If there are no other options, I’ll buy a better CPU, but I’d prefer not to buy another.

I actually have the exact same tv tuner as you. When I first installed the software, the programs were jerky as well. What the problem actually is is that you need more RAM for your computer. RAM helps with loading and running multiple programs at the same time. The more RAM you have in your system, the smoother it will run. Just about every brand of computer has a customer support website that you can look up specifications of your particular make and model of your computer. Look up what type of RAM you need and buy that particular kind for your system and follow the instructions on how to install it into your computer. Your tv tuner, as well as your other programs will operate a lot smoother then. Good luck in getting it to work!
