I have an Hauppauge wintv-hvr 1600, and I want to hook up my VCR (analog?) to my PC so I could capture footage. I’m just stuck on figuring out what to do and I have many questions, so answer as many as you can.
1. I want to hookup the VCR with a coaxial cable because I don’t have any other option. So I place one end on "Out" on the VCR (is that right?). Now on the back of my TV tuner, there are 3 coaxial outlets, one for "FM in," "TV in," "Ant in." Which of the three do I connect the coaxial cable to? Just to let you know the tuner has RCA outlets for only the audio (red and white) so I can’t do a composite connection.
2. What software do I need? I have downloaded Powervideo Studio, but I don’t know how to set it up to record from the VCR.
Basically I need a step-by-step guide that would work for my equipement, if there is one, please gimme! Thanks!
1. That VCR should have a coax labeled "TV OUT," not "TV IN." That’s the one you need to connect to the wintv. Basically, you are unhooking your TV and hooking up your computer in its place, so whichever connection went to your TV is the one you need to hook the computer to.
2. I don’t know about Power Video Studio, and their website doesn’t seem to have a manual, so I hope that the program is either easy to use or has a good help function. The wintv comes with software that can record video, the WinTV HVR. Install it, turn on your VCR, and run WinTV 2000. When it asks, tell it you are using cable TV, and have it scan for channels. It should find your VCR on channel 3.
You can then use the WinTV recorder to record your videos to files (as MPEG 2). You then can run the MPEG Editor on those files to edit them further, and then use their DVD Movie Factory software to burn them to DVD (it’s MPEG 2, so it SHOULD word with most DVD players – AVI would be better.)
