Anyone reading this who once thought dial up was exciting has enjoyed watching the evolution of computers and the internet progress over the last several years. Thanks to the gaming industry pushing computer processing to the point where computers can handle incredible amounts of data processing and broadband communication installations across the world, we can now enjoy the benefits of merging technologies such as satellite TV for PC. Our local cable providers have been promising video on demand with sophisticated digital recording technology but regrettably this hasn’t been without its share of problems.

Satellite TV for PC is and has been available via the internet, but has taken some time to catch on as many users await for the broadband requirements to be delivered to their respective locales or for their next computer upgrade to handle the necessary data processing.

Internet Light on my DSL Modem Keeps Turning Off?

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

I was surfing the web and the Internet light on my modem just TURNED off. I was like WTF. Ok. I Power Cycled my modem, unplugged everything, reset it. Checked both sides of my phone cord, unplugged it and plugged it back in. Tried it without a network cable connected(Ethernet Light is on). After about 5 mins I was about to call my ISP(QWEST).But then the light came back on. I was was surfing for about 2-3 mins and it turn off again. GRRR. Then I called Qwest. They said it was going to be until MONDAY until they could send someone over. This is a JOKE. I spend good money to make sure that I have internet. I don’t pay for shit that isn’t going to randomly turn off.
Right now I am using my Windows Mobile Phone as a modem to connect to the internet(Thank god for unlimited data plan). I tried different phone cords, long ones, short ones. Nothing helped….

No settings were changed. Nothing was installed/uninstalled. The guy on the phone I talked to said it was some kind of problem in the line. He said it might be their side or mine(the line outside or my line inside). Has anyone else had this problem? What is causing it?

It has been about 2 hours since I have called tech support, and since then the light has came on about 5-6 times(for about 2 mins at a time, then goes off again). Since I have started typing this, it has blinked on 2 times, for about 2-3 seconds. Then off again. They told me if it ends up being something on my end, I will be charge. I think this is bullshit because of the fast I pay for a service that I am NOT getting right now and I wont see any money back for not having my service.

MY questions are, has anyone had this problem before(any ISP), were you able to fix it yourself? Did tech support take care of it? Was the problem on your side, or theirs?

Willing to give 5star rating to anyone who is able to lead me to information that will fix this for me.

More information:

All the Lights are on

Power – Solid Greed
DSL light – Slow blinking green
Internet – Off(Occasionally on)
Ethernet – (Solid, Blinks if I access my modem via 192.168.0.1)

I can change settings in my modem, Access to modem is fine. I looked at internet settings. When the tech support guy looked at modem from his side he got (Trying to connect) from my modem, it just wasn’t able to. The problem lie somewhere between the lines between my house jack and the box that it runs to. No splitters, no Cable TV/satellite , no house phone line, no security system.

Help me out people! :)

looks like an ISP problem. Wait for that person to come over.

live thai tv in the uk?

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

hi there, i was hoping someone out there can help me please! i have a lovely thai wife who loves staying here in the uk , but! misses hur thai tv. she can get most thai channels via the internet but they tend to stick, buffer ! So last week i got hur a Satellite System that i Thought could pick up Thai tv & it operates from the hot bird 8 at 13 east But can only pick up 1 channel from the Thai globel network which is channel 5 .& she does not like that channel. does anyone know how to or if it possible to pick up any other channels from Thailand ? chears craig

I’m in the US so I don’t know if this will work where you are but worth a try. We have always been able to watch the morning shows but have problems at night. I think because there are more people than bandwidth. Also some other links to Thai media below. This is all on the internet so I would get the fastest connection I could.

Here is a channel from Issan (satelite). We haven’t had problems here because I don’t think alot of people are watching but has all the news with and Issan slant

Here are all the OTA(over the Air) channels

Mr. Kwai has links to Thai newspapers, radio stations, TV, music

VOA has Thai and Lao news and information

If she’s gotta have those Lakorns you can search Youtube for Thai Lakhorn. You gotta mess around with it for a while but once you learn the system…. You create a full playlists then hit the "Play All" feature is an amazing timesaver

They usually break the shows into nights and segments so a lakhorn that aired over 8 week 2 nights a week would have sixteen 1.5 hour episodes broken into nine ten minute segments. So you have episode 1 1/9, 2/9 3/9 etc…
The good thing here is you can stream the episodes rather than downloading, as your watching they usually will automatically roll over to the next segment, there are groups who in order to develop there English skills subtitle. If you look around you can find most of the major Larkorns over the past ten years (Some even current)

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=lakorn+Thai&search_type=&aq=f

Here is one particular group that converted 4 lakorns to English sub.

Are any of the IPTV services any good? Adult content?

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

There seem to be several IPTV services found on the net at present that offer to transform your computer into a TV and give you access to 1000s of channels. Many offer a lifetime membership for $30 to $70. But I would hate to pay the money and find they are a scam. Here are some of the supposed providers:
www.watchonline.tv/
www.digitaltvonpc.com
www.real.com/superpass
free-satellite-network.com
www.eztv1.com/
www.tvonpcelite.com
www.sitereviewauthority.org/satellitetvelite
www.computertvonline.com/

Has anyone tried any of these? Any good? Adult content?

I am NOT asking about the other type of IPTV that delivers TV shows via internet to a desktop box connected to your TV.

I did try http://free-satellite-network.com myself as they had a 14 day free trial. Once I got into it, I could not ever seem to navigate my way into the movie section. I ended up canceling my membership rather than trying to catch their non-24 hour tech support.

real.com/superpass is reliable. It is by one of the biggest internet companies (sort of). They are the ones that own Real Player. I would trust them.

The rest of them I would be a bit iffy about. Do some reaserch on them before you buy their software.

Valentines day, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ??!?

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

I know its long but believe me, its worth a read!

…………………………………..
Celebrating Valentine’s Day
…………………………………..

Praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the Worlds, and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his family and companions.

Allaah has chosen for us Islam as our religion and He will not accept any other religion from anyone, as He says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers [Aal ‘Imraan 3:85]

And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told us that groups of his ummah would follow the enemies of Allaah in some of their rituals and customs, as it says in the hadeeth of Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him), who narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “You will certainly follow the ways of those who came before you, span by span, cubit by cubit, until even if they were to enter a lizard’s hole, you would follow them.” We said, “O Messenger of Allaah, (do you mean) the Jews and Christians?” He said, “Who else?!”

(Narrated by al-Bukhaari in al-I’tisaam bi’l-Kitaab wa’l-Sunnah, Baab Qawl al-Nabi (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) La tattabi’unna Sanan man kaana qablakum, 8/151; and by Muslim in Kitaab al-‘Ilm, Baab Ittibaa’ Sanan al-Yahood wa’l-Nasaara, 4/2054)

What the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) spoke of has indeed come to pass and has become widespread in recent times, in many of the Muslim countries. Many of the Muslims follow the enemies of Allaah in many of their customs and ways of behaving, and imitate them in some of their rituals and in celebrating their holidays.

The matter has been made even worse by the opening up of mass communications between peoples, whereby the rituals and customs of the kuffaar are now transmitted with the glamorous adornment of sound and image from their countries into the Muslim countries, via satellite TV and the World Wide Web (Internet). Many Muslims have been deceived by their glamour.

In recent years, a new phenomenon has spread among the Muslim youth – males and females alike – which does not bode well. This is manifested in their imitation of the Christians in their celebration of the Valentine’s Day, which has led the scholars and daa’iyahs to explain the rulings of sharee’ah concerning that, out of sincerity towards Allaah, His Messenger, the leaders of the Muslims and their common folk, so that Muslims may have a clear understanding of this issue and so that they will not fall into that which will undermine the belief (‘aqeedah) with which Allaah has blessed them.

This is a brief discussion of the origins, development and purpose of this holiday, and what the Muslim should do with regard to it.

*************************************************************
The STORY of the Festival of Love (Valentine’s Day) :
**************************************************************
The Festival of Love was one of the festivals of the pagan Romans, when paganism was the prevalent religion of the Romans more than seventeen centuries ago. In the pagan Roman concept, it was an expression of “spiritual love”.

There were myths associated with this pagan festival of the Romans, which persisted with their Christian heirs. Among the most famous of these myths was the Roman belief that Romulus, the founder of Rome, was suckled one day by a she-wolf, which gave him strength and wisdom.

The Romans used to celebrate this event in mid-February each year with a big festival. One of the rituals of this festival was the sacrifice of a dog and a goat. Two strong and muscular youths would daub the blood of the dog and goat onto their bodies, then they would wash the blood away with milk. After that there would be a great parade, with these two youths at its head, which would go about the streets. The two youths would have pieces of leather with which they would hit everyone who crossed their path. The Roman women would welcome these blows, because they believed that they could prevent or cure infertility.

The connection between Saint Valentine and this festival

Saint Valentine is a name which is given to two of the ancient “martyrs” of the Christian Church. It was said that there were two of them, or that there was only one, who died in Rome as the result of the persecution of the Gothic leader Claudius, c. 296 CE. In 350 CE, a church was built in Rome on the site of the place where he died, to perpetuate his memory.

When the Romans embraced Christianity, they continued to celebrate the Feast of Love mentioned above, but they changed it from the pagan concept of “spiritual love” to another concept known as the “martyrs of love”, represented by Saint Valentine who had advocated love and peace, for which cause he was martyred, accor

and if interested:

http://www.islam-qa.com/en/ref/73007

When the Romans embraced Christianity, they continued to celebrate the Feast of Love mentioned above, but they changed it from the pagan concept of “spiritual love” to another concept known as the “martyrs of love”, represented by Saint Valentine who had advocated love and peace, for which cause he was martyred, according to their claims. It was also called the Feast of Lovers, and Saint Valentine was considered to be the patron saint of lovers.

One of their false beliefs connected with this festival was that the names of girls who had reached marriageable age would be written on small rolls of paper and placed in a dish on a table. Then the young men who wanted to get married would be called, and each of them would pick a piece of paper. He would put himself at the service of the girl whose name he had drawn for one year, so that they could find out about one another.
If interested, history behind " Valentines Day " just read the whole thing:

and the ruling regardng celebrting it:

ike the qiblah (direction faced in prayer), prayer and fasting. So there is no difference between joining them in their festival and joining them in their other rituals. Agreeing with the whole festival is agreeing with kufr. Agreeing with some of their minor issues is the same as agreeing with them in some of the branches of kufr. Festivals are the most distinctive things by which religions are told apart, so whoever celebrates their festivals is agreeing with the most distinctive rituals of kufr. Undoubtedly going along with them in their festivals may in some cases lead to kufr. Dabbling in these things, at the very least, is a sin. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) referred to the fact that every nation has its own festivals when he said: ‘Every nation has its own Eid and this is our Eid’ (al-Bukhaari , 952, Muslim, 1892).” (al-Iqtidaa’, 1/471-472)
********
********
Here are some parts from the original article that interested me :

Someone may ask: why do we Muslims not celebrate this festival?

In Islam, the festivals are clearly defined and well established, and no additions or subtractions may be accepted. They are an essential part of our worship and there is no room for ijtihaad or personal opinion. They have been prescribed for us by Allaah and His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

“Festivals are part of the laws, clear way and religious ceremonies of which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

‘To each among you, We have prescribed a law and a clear way[al-Maa’idah 5:48]

‘For every nation We have ordained religious ceremonies which they must follow’[al-Hajj 22:67]
(Contd….. like the qiblah (direction faced in prayer), prayer and fasting. Dabbling in these things, at the very least, is a sin. long explanation.
regardless of the explanation, celebrating any holiday other than what was ordained by Allah (the two eids, nikkah, aqiqah) is a biddah. when we begin to assimilate ourselves to try to conform to other religions we are making a mockery of and disrespecting our own religion. To say there is nothing wrong with celebrating another one’s holiday (especially when it has its origin in a religious belief) is extremely wrong. We should never say "what’s the harm". If one celebrates Christmas…what’s the harm? If one takes a few sips of alcohol but doesnt get drunk from it, what’s the harm? These are the very dangers that alter the Islamic fundamental beliefs that true muslims hold dear to, live for and die for. By doing these things, we are belittling our religion. Once this starts, as it already has, the chain of events will be that these "harmless" acts of biddah and disrespect are passed down from generation to generation. Over the years, what becomes of our sacred religion?

I finally got some time to mess around with the Match Box Pro USB receiver.

I have had my PC for around a year and I think I have made the mistake of downloading every DVB application under the sun, needless to say the install took more time than it should have. My DVB world box was still installed so that may have been the problem.
Most time was spent trying to clean my PC and delete the DVB World software, it did not want to go easily. It would not auto delete so I had to go into my hard drive and delete manually.

I then ran the iobit software MrTim has posted here http://visionplus.us/smf/index.php?topic=1636.0
It works a treat!

Next problem I had was with the ProgDVB software, I could not get the latest software to run on my PC, so I dropped back a couple of versions, that worked.
I was less than happy with the quality of the HD performance, its FLAWLESS on my DVB World USB card but was breaking up badly with very low signal quality in comparison the the DVB World Box.
I was just about to re-install the DVB World Box but thought I would try the latest version of ProgDVB again. IT WORKED!

FLAWLESS HD and SD pictures and the software is so much more flexible. I was also pleasantly surprised to see perfect aspect ratio, something I had never quite mastered before.

All in all I am having a GREAT time with this receiver, I will post more here as I learn more about it and play some more with it.
